Airlock Concept

I wanted to do something sci-fi and industrial, an airlock seemed like a good challenge. I  used rigid shapes and played with the symmetry of the scene a little bit as an experiment.

Characters and Cartoons


I've taken on a number of different challenges here. The well armed revolutionary being a fully realised design. The cartoons are one off animal caricatures in which I have invested a bit of distinctive personality in each one. The set of designs is the ideation process of an explorer who has spent time among a people called the Hmong of Vietnam, who incidentally have amazing clothes and colour combinations.

Concept Fortress

I thought I would do an extended project and create an environment design. I chose a wintry palisade fortress as a brief. After creating some thumbnails I chose what worked well and created a more detailed painting exploring the structure of the environment. Then expanding on the entire scene with detailed paintings of key features of the broader environment.

Creature and key moment design

I wanted to create a set of varied creature designs, although mainly menacing and monster like. The scene depicted is a key moment storyboard, I wanted to capture the dynamic nature of a moment like this, motion blur and composition are key for this I found.

Gauntlet model

This is a low poly concept model, not so much a game asset. I hope to make a high poly model at some point with more complex texturing and fine details.

Raider and scene illustration

Two quite different things this time round. The scene is essentially a developed storyboard, creating a mood and a composition. The Raider is a strait forward character design, more fantastical than historical although there is a hint of steppe warrior about the design.

I thought a guitar would be a good modelling challenge, all the little details were tricky but definitely add the to realism.

I wanted to make something seriously detailed, easily good enough for a film costume design. I think I got there in the end.

UPDATE: I created a workman character design with a similar set of criteria, I think I'll do a triptych of finely detailed characters, not sure what to do next though ...
